Kubota L5740 cab + FEL, KX121, KX080
I've getting dangerously close to buying a 5740 HSTC, and want to do a quick satisfaction check among current owners. Any issues, problems, etc? The searching I've done suggests Kubota did real well for a first model year.

I can't speak for the L40 (I've been drooling over them at my local dealer) but the L30's are absolutely fantastic. I've had two and I'd buy 'bota again in a heartbeat. Lots of 40 owners here who I'm sure will chime in.

GO FOR IT!

Hayden, I've just ordered a L5240 Cab. I've had 3 other K's and think the enginering, and quality of the 40 series is second to none.
This tractor will easily out live me!

How about a hypothetical question to add to this discussion.

Given that the 40 series is a first year model with some increased complexity (HST+) would any of you buy it if it didn't come with Kubota's warranty and without local dealer support?

I ask because if.... hypothetically again.... I were to spring for one, I'd be getting it across the border for a savings of about $4K - $5K after accounting for all costs. I would get no warranty whatsoever and would run the risk of Kubota dealers not wanting to service my machine even if I paid for repairs since it is 'grey market' (some free trade eh?).

My *guess* is that unless I got a real lemon I'd be ok. It is a Kubota after all and the odd repair could be handled by a local non Kubota mechanic.

Heyden, I,m just about to hit the 100 hr service interval on my new 3940. I absolutely love it. I just wish I could have put the larger loader on the 3940. I used it today to lay 16000 sq.ft. of sod, the rolls are 42" wide and 180' long, the sod guy told me they weigh 1500 to 1800 lbs. and we hooked on to a couple that were extremely hard to pick up.....

I love the HST+ I didnt think I would enjoy it as mush as I do.
Stall Guard is really functional.

Good luck with your purchase.

If my dealer called me tomorrow and said he'd knock off $4500. if I passed on the warranty! YES,!! I would, skip the warranty.

I recenty completed the first 50 hours on my GL3240 (in just under a month) and...

... my Kubota Dragon(tm) kicks butt and takes names.

It has done everything I've asked:
* spread/leveled 40yds of road base w/ the box blade
* dug soil profiles w/ back-hoe
* dug drainge swales w/ back-hoe
* moved 30+yrds of soil to clear the area for the new garage w/ the FEL
* moved lots of "stuff" w/ the pallet fork

I don't know how I lived without it. :)

My only serious complaint is that the HST+ "Auto Throttle" w/ miss-named "cruise control" does not work in reverse :(

Talon Dancer

p.s. yes I know Kubota means "little bull" but I still like the sound of Kubota Dragon (tm) :)

My L4240 with the heavier 854 loader has been unstoppable. I've been using the FEL and box to build a ranch pond and I've moved approx 200 yards of dirt so far. The Bush Hog does a good job on sage also.

Just to let you know I am real happy with my 5740. It has about 40 hrs. on it now most was running a 8 ft. rhino mower in tall heavy grass. I also use it for box blade work Seams to me like a real work horse. The tractors I owned in the past were industrial fords which are great tractors. So the kubota had a tough act to follow.[Also to question a post above why would you want cruse control in reverse ???]

If you went across the border to buy it you could also go back across the border to get service/ warranty work done. Sure would beat paying for work or dealing with a dealer that doesn't want to give the time of day.
