I got 10%off plus no sales tax on farm related equipment= 18.25%off, not a bad deal.

Just saw this on another thread and it made me wonder. 8.25% sales tax? I have been complaining about ours just goin from 6 to 6.5. (Volusia county Fl.)

What kind of sales tax rates are out there, and where? Any higher than the 8.25?/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif WOW

Where I'm living now (S.F. East Bay) the state and local sales taxes come to 8.25%. Across the bay, in San Francisco County I believe it's 8.50%. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

The feds are trying to crack down on it, but I still shop out of state via the internet as much as possible, just to beat the taxes.

Here in NY state it depends on which county you are in. Its 7% here at my antique shop and 8% in the next county over where I live. Guess where I do most of my major shopping!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yep, 8.25% is what we pay.

Bird, if I'm not mistaken, Texas doesn't have a state income tax does it ? That would explain the higher sales tax. California, on the other hand, taxes the crap out of you anyway they can. I remember paying around $250 dollars to registrate my pickup out there, just because it was a newer model. When I came back to PA it cost me about $30 for registration. We pay 6% sales tax here in Greene county, but in Allegheny county, I believe it is 7.5%.

States that have no income tax, like Texas and Florida, typically have high sales taxes and other forms of high taxes. Some states have high everything, like New York, California, Massachusetts and Connecticut...........Now that Harv given advice on internet sales taxation, I have been emboldened to publish soon an explanation of bicubic interpolation of jpegtiff HTML holographic signature images.

Hold your breath for this...17.5%, yes that's correct 17.5%. Over here it's called VAT (Value Added Tax) but I have yet to find out what value has been added /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

In Michigan we pay 6% sales tax. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif We pay state income tax. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif There is a line item to report any out of state transactions over the Internet. Then send in that money with your income tax payment. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

I'm assuming that the states that don't have any sales tax have state income tax. If this is not the case let me know. Just curious. This state claims we don't have state income tax because of the large amount of tourists.

One thing for sure is that the state is going to get our money some way.

I live in NY now but I moved here from NH. NH has no income tax and no sales tax. They take that 'live free or die' stuff seriously.

Thomas...NH property taxes are high but they are still nothing compared to NY.

Along with our ~8% income tax and 7-8% sales tax. My property taxes in NY are about twice what they where when I lived in NY (comparable value house) and here I have no town water, no sewer system, no police, only a volunteer fire department, etc.... you get the idea.

Chuck, you may generally be right (I don't know), but the State of Alaska has neither a state income tax nor a sales tax. And Texas doesn't have a state income tax yet, but don't think some of our legislators haven't considered it.

In Maryland, we pay 5% sales tax. We have a state and also a county tax income tax which is a percentage of the state tax. Most counties are 60% of the state tax. A couple are 50% and a couple are 70%. As you can imagine, the larger the population density, the higher the county kick. And if you are fortunate to live in Montegomery County, MD, you have all kinds of additional taxes and fees. One of their benefits from what I understand. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

To be honest, I have heard people say that it is cheaper to live in one state than another. In some cases, this is true. However, "cheaper" is relative. One has to take into account all of the tax burdens that are imposed upon us. We usually focus on the sales tax as being terrible. If you don't spend much money, you don't pay the tax.

Has anyone ever seen a state by state tax comparison based upon the same parameters? Same property, size house, number of out building, number of cars/trucks, etc to get a fair assessment. That would be interesting.

Your correct, Montana has a state income tax but no sales tax. Heavy debate on sales tax comes up every 5 to 8 years with respect to letting the millions of tourists each year help foot the bill of services demanded.
