I'm new here and got a question. On a New Holland TC45, is there a trick to keep the engine running while not seated? I tried applying parking brake but no luck.

can't say about New Holland but my Kubota has 2 switch settings, if the seat is folded up it will stay running, if its down but no weight it will shut off.

I'm not sure on your specific model but on mine I ended up jumpering the seat switch because I have a backhoe and have to flip the drivers seat up to put the backhoe seat down. I have a TC33D.

Parking brake on and transmission in neutral works on my TC40DA HST even with PTO engaged. Does it die when running and you lift off the seat?

On my TC33D if I apply the parking brake and place the range selector in one of the neutral positions I can get off the tractor without it shutting off.

is the seat safety two position switch on TC series? Some brands have 3 position seat safety where by tilting the seat forward without an operator on the seat pto can stay engaged.

JC,

ps. I hate to circumvent any safeties, but the the safety switch plug can be shorted out with piece of wire and two spade blades.

Randy got it right for the TC45. The parking brake must be on and the range lever in neutral before exiting the seat. Putting the range lever in neutral is what most people overlook.

That's same on my TC40D. That is how I run at 540pto speed when running a pto chipper/shredder. And, when running the 3pt log splitter.

Interesting. With my TC35A I have to put the parking brake on and the forward/reverse lever most be in neutral. I have never tried the range lever. I know that it is very bad form, but I also can start the tractor in the morning without getting on the tractor by setting the parking brake and neutral on the forward and reverse lever.

I can't say for the others, but I made an assumption of HST transmission and should not have done that. You are absolutely right that the shuttle in neutral is all you need in addition to the parking brake on a gear type tractor. Oops! I've got a little egg on my face.:)
