i'm looking into getting a trailer to haul my jd 790 and some other lighter equipment to and from home to the farm. i still drive the bigger tractors down the road. but the less trips i make the better thats the reason for the trailer, plus i can also use it for hauling hay(small squares). i was thinking something around 16 to 18 ft and not a 5th wheel. it will be towed w/ an f250 diesel. i'm just not sure if a single axle at 7klbs would be sufficient or should i go dual axle. i can get a single axle w/ brakes used from a friend for a cheap deal. any info would be great. thanks

I haul my 790 on an 18 foot light duty car hauler trailer. It has two 3500 pound axles. The length is good as it has enough extra to move the tractor a bit to adjust the load. I certainly wouldn't go shorter. Weight wise, it's fine as the 790 isn't all that heavy. I've done a lot of short distance towing and one long trip with my backhoe on. It's always been fine and it's great to have for hauling other stuff too.

I pull with an F250, again no problems /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You'll find the twin axle rig so much easier to haul, load, and push around in the yard, you might think the cheap deal wasn't worth it.
