Rust around fuel tank filler neck

I have a 2012 model John Deere 5093E. There is significant light rust around the filler neck, chain that attaches to the screw on fuel cap and a small spring in the cap..Any idea what could account for this?

Too much rain or too many wash jobs.

Salt spray if out near a highway during winter in MN.. possibly.

Probably just condensation but I've never seen it this bad on such a new model (2012) However, the tractor set for a year without use before I bought it and I suspect the fuel tank was near empty..

I had this issue on 2012 model . Replaced cap under warranty. I removed chain as it appeared to be source of most rust. I didn't like chain anyway. I turn my cap facing up on fender when refueling

I have a 2014 5065e with the same issue, looked through john deere parts and the threads in tank did not have a part number or breakout. Does anyone know where to get a replacement thread insert.

I looked at my box that parts came in. The black plastic cap is part number AL 113086. I have another parts bag with part number L 80418 on it. I think that is the threaded filler neck. There is a rubber o-ring under filler neck (which threads into plastic tank nozzle). The o-ring seals between metal neck and plastic tank. My tractor is a 2012 5065e. I doubt the tank changed. The o-ring is part number L 112337.

Mine is also a 2012 model..I think I too will remove the chain..It's about to rust off anyway
