MY wife is always ready to spoil me. For my bday she got me hunting boots from Russell Mocassins. It took forever for them to make them, but boy was the waiting worth it. Love those boots. As they say the best present is something you would never ever buy yourself.

I don't know if you have any experience with or have even heard of White's Shoes & Boots from Spokane, WA but they sound like they may be the same deal as the Russell Mocassins. They are handmade to fit. You have to use their measurement guide to order them. They are very popular here in Montana. A person doesn't often see them because they're expensive but after biting the bullet & buying a pair about 8 years ago now I think it was money well spent. They are guarunteed to be completely rebuildable for life. So far all I've had to do with mine is have new rubber lifts put on the heels. I wear them about 6 months of the year as they are uninsulated for summer wear. It sure is nice to be able to be on my feet for about 12 hours a day & get home & not worry about taking off my boots because my dogs are BARKING.

One of these days I'm gonna get me some Russells'/Gokey/etc. It would be nice to have a pair of shoes that fit both feet correctly. Got one foot at least a size larger than the other.

I hear you, Russell actually made me trace my feet twice, cause they didn't believe the first sketch:) One foot bigger and high instep, no wonder I always have to try shoes before buying.

I had mountaineering boots made in Poprad in Slovakia in 80ties, worn them down to paper thin sole; if you spread the investment in boots over the years, it is not that bad. Besides, I like boots:D

heard of whites and yes they and russels are in the $400-500 range per pair, but i have heard that they fit great. Dont whites just make the logger style boots wiht the huge sole made for standing on slopes? Those things are so heavy there like blocks on your feet, but that is other pairs from other companies though not whites.

And I thought I was unusual. Fortunately, both my legs are the same length, but the left foot is smaller than the right and the left leg is smaller in diameter than the right; one of the results of polio.

Have you ever bought 2 pairs of shoes to make 1 "good" pair? That's another option I guess - If only we could find someone the opposite that likes the same boots/shoes LOL!

No, but think many do because at shoe sales you often find missmatched shoes, i.e;11/12, but then not all folks are honest like you.

Yes, but not for many years now. I just lace the left one tighter.

Ever seen the movie "We were soldiers" A photoreporter shares similar story of his greatgrandfathers who both lost legs in Civil war and actually met at the store every year to buy a pair of shoes together.

Great movie btw.

Czech,
I have to agree with you that "We Were Soldiers" is a fantastic movie. Some of the scenes of Fort Benning, GA bring a lump to my throat from my time spent there. For me forgetting is not an option.
The White's I own are big, clunky, heavy, stiff & COMFORTABLE. I certainly wouldn't wear them to go out impressing girls or foot racing. If I had to go to a butt kicking contest I could pretty much guaruntee that I wouldn't get a sore foot. They do make many styles & types as can be seen by viewing the link that someone posted (thanks by the way). I ordered mine with a more moderate tread design. Many years ago I had a pair of what they call their semi-dress shoes. They were obtained from a secondhand store. I didn't know what I had & when they were worn out I dropped them in the trash. Had I been smarter I'd still be wearing them now around 40 years after their disposal. Dang it!
