This is what the City Slickers think of us

"The 25 percent of Americans who live in rural areas are poorer, older, fatter and sicker than their city neighbors. They live farther from doctors and have a harder time getting to appointments, many depending on neighbors or church volunteers if public transportation doesn't exist."

Who are you quoting? I've been to town a time or two, and I've seen people standing on the curb holding their bottle in a paper sack. That doesn't paint a picture of prosperity.

Interesting..in strange way it seem to balance out.

I bet it's pretty representative of most major urban opinions. Interestingly here, where I live the stats show much of that statement to be true

-average incomes in this region are lower than in the big city
-health care is much less available
-much more heart disease in this area vs the city
-more deaths from accidents and heart attacks due to slower response time from emergency services

All that said, you could not drag me kicking and screaming into the city to live.

Keep putting out articles like that. Maybe the city slickers will stay in town and quit messing up the country life.

I read that article. It is discussing the problems facing residents in rural areas in obtaining health care. The bottom line is that doctors just do not want to practice in those areas.

Back home in Sullivan County, Indiana they are still doing pretty good. They are about 25 miles south of Terre Haute and have a lot of doctors come from their to their small rural hospital. I know there are lots of places hurting probably the west but in many rural areas they are still doing ok.
