This has happened to me a couple of times now. My 2020 X1140 will sputter and stall even though the fuel gauge says 1/4 tank. Any sort of incline will trigger it. So far I have always been able to get it restarted and running long enough to get home, but clearly there is a problem. I haven't dug in yet to figure out if it's a gauge problem and the tank is really empty, of it it's a pickup problem of some sort. The machine is low hours (70), fuel is clean, filter is recently changed at 50hr service. I have a filter on my storage tank pump, and never issues with any other machines from same fuel source.

I'm mostly curious if others have encountered anything similar, or if this is a one-off problem. Of course I'm out of warranty - Oh well.

Sounds like either crud in the tank blocking fuel flow or.. an inaccurate gage. I look at fuel gages as approximate indicators not gospel and I much prefer a visual look or a stick to ascertain the actual level.

Next time it gets low I'll check with a flashlight to see if the level can be seen. It probably can, but I have only watched it visually when topping off. Off by 1/4 is a lot for a gauge. I don't consider that acceptable. If it was crud in the tank, I would expect the starvation to be more random, rather than correlated with 1/4 tank level or below.
