Time to change the oil. Pulled onto the drive-on hoist in the shop. Raised it up. Went underneath and drained oil, changed filter, greased rear axle joints, looked everything over real good, dropped the hoist. Time to fill the engine with oil........ Uh-oh,,,,,, forgot to raise the bed....... Hydraulic lift bed, can't start the engine to raise bed, engine located under front portion of bed......

Fortunately the bed lift lever has a "float" position. Put the lever in float and lift/tilt the bed by hand. While lifted quickly snap the lever back into the neutral position which held the bed up.

Probably need to mentally focus on a better step by step procedure for oil changes. :D

There is this thing about painting floors with a brush and a bucket and painting yourself into a corner?:)

Glad you worked around it..

To quote Homer Simpson, "D'oh!"

You'll get it right next time!

That's not stupid. Starting the engine up to raise the bed and add the engine oil, now that might be tilting toward stupid.

Hey, as long as nobody else knows (and surely we won't tell), it never happened ;)

On my RTV 900, you need the bed raised in order to put in the oil, but when servicing the hydraulic oil, you must not raise it too high or the bumper interferes with removal of the oil filter protection housing. Found that out at last oil change when it was hard to get the housing off and impossible to get it back on. Lowered the bed back down and it was easy as pie, bolts slid right into the mounting holes.

The last time I cut off the end of a finger, I realized how important the Doc is that is helping you out. I was fortunate to get an amazing, talented and caring doctor. The very first time, in a few injuries where the freezing was applied in such a way, that I never felt a thing, when getting sewn up. I seem to be in the unfortunate category of having zero pain tolerance, and faint at the mere thought of personal injury.

I owe this man a great debt of gratitude.

There are few GOOD doctors in my opinion and experience. I had an accident, but in the end felt lucky.
