RTV 900 Shifting Problems

I just got my new RTV 900 and drove it for the first time and I am still trying to figure out the transmission. It seems to jam in gear and I have a hard time shifting since it will not come out of the gear you are in all the time. I pulled the pressure relief knob and it released the pressure but still did not shift. I looked in the owners manual and it said to put the parking break on and press the accelerator slightly and release accelerator and then shift. I have not tried this yet but boy it is sure a pain once in awhile when it jams in gear and the shift lever will not move. It does not do it all of the time. I am going to call the dealer Monday and ask him what is going on and what I am doing wrong.

When my RTV won't shift I first try blipping the throttle, if that doesn't work pull the relief valve and gently press accelerator while pulling the gear lever - works for me. Once I had a few hours on the machine changes were easier.

Most of my problems are caused by having too much tension/pressure on the transmission (from having the RTV in aposition that warrants a gear change like hanging off ahill or something) while attempting a gear change - thats why I blip the throttle or let the machine move a little.

Give it a few months and it will shift like mine. I do not have a hydro release so I use to have to push on the brake pedal to get it to release. Now its almost like a stick shift, just let off the throttle pedal and up shift.

You might not. I think it's only on the newer ones. I'm not sure but I think there might be a free retrofit for them from the dealer though. Might be worth looking into.

No free retrofit for the relief valve. As a matter of fact it it quite pricey to make that change. It will get better after you have a few hours on it. Nice machine.

It definitely gets better with a few hours on it. Ours started shifting easier after about 30 hours. We have about 240 hours on our RTV900 now. I don't know what we would do without it.
