RTV 500 winch solenoid location

I am mounting a Super Winch Terra 3500 winch on my RTV 500. The instructions state to put the solenoid near the battery, but that area is cramped. I would like to run power cables up to the front and put both the solenoid and the circuit breaker under the hood where I am sure they will stay clean and dry. Does anyone know why is or is not a good idea? Asked Super Winch, but have not heard back.

I wouldn't have a problem with running cables to the front, under the hood, as long as they are WELL protected and heavy enough to carry the load when the winch is at max pull.

Another choice, is to put a second batt. under the hood.

I will use 6 gauge battery cables with 1/4" lugs, same as shipped with the winch. I like the idea of a second battery, there is a lot of room there under the hood, but will add more weight.

I was thinking the same thing battery area is way to cramped up, I ran 2 heavy wires under the floor mat to the front under the hood with terminals as to extend the battery forward and now can jump start other equipment when needed and also furture winch plans.

Agreed :thumbsup: What I call leg-wetting cool. Nice place to put a charging pigtail, or even mount a trickler under the hood vs a second battery, too, right by the horn?
