Does anyone have experience with the new round baler with built in bale wrappers? One of my customers is wanting to have wrapped round bales and currently I don't own either a round baler or bale wrapper. He is talking about buying a wrapper as I've been contracting a friend to roll the rounds for me as needed but decided to explore more options.

Similar, was looking at krone and claas versions that are all factory built together

Sweet. They'd never work around my neck of the woods due to terrain.

More and more people here are using Anderson inline wrappers instead of single bale wrappers. Each have advantages over the other in certain instances.

I've got 100 sudex bales wrapped inline this year.

Is he wanting to bale green hay or just keep the rain off?

We're trying to bale green hay this year but what started this is him wanting to store dry hay outside. Currently he puts the rounds in the loft of his barn and he wants to try something different and easier. We're trying to cut and bale canary early before it gets bitter but with our weather here we don't usually have favorable conditions to make dry hay at that time. So it's experiment time. I'd just rip the canary out and eventually plant something better but it's not my field.

Sounds like an expensive experiment!

There are definitely advantages to green wrapped hay. I had about 60 rolls last year and the cows would clean up every last bit.

Any reason to go with the all-in-one baler combo over a stand alone wrapper?

Here in Norway nobody makes hay, all are bales.
Easy to store, to handle and to sell.

Just doing research ahead of any potential purchase. Weighing out all options. My customer was the one who approached me about this. He is talking about buying a bale wrapper himself if I get a round baler but I like the idea of a one pass option where the round gets wrapped as your forming the next round. Also like being able to group rounds together if you're not wrapping by using the wrapper as a bale carrier. I'm most likely going to use a friends equipment this spring and see what happens from there. Just prefer to own my own equipment and know how it's taken care of.

Hello Robert_in_NY, If you look at the link below you will see the baler that we use in hill country. This is the 2nd of this model. It is towed with a JD 7430.This baler was chosen due to it's low centre of gravity compared to the competition. The one difference to the you tube clip, is we use a kick bar to stand the bale on end to prevent run-away. The bales are approx 1000 kg/2200lb in weight. Note the 3D wrapping. The bales stack better and travel better than a standard wrapped bale.

You will need to decide between a fixed chamber or a variable chamber baler.
If you bale in hilly or rolling terrain I recommend a kick bar, as run away bales just flatten any thing in the way.
Lastly Read the Rake MANUAL ROW SHAPE is CRITICAL to get good square shouldered bales.

I reread your post and you said "green hay" Do you mean haylage or silage? The weights I gave are for silage. It has a higher moisture content than haylage. The Kuhn 2135 round baler will handle hay , haylage ,and silage.
It uses net, not string to tie the bales and the net is definately easier to cut when feeding out. Also it can do fine cut,(4"length) But I haven't used it.

If just looking for simpler outside storage (not necc green storage) Ambraco/Tama has a product called b-wrap. However, currently will only work with John Deere round balers, handles the wrapping just like surface wrap. Requires an additional sensor kit for the machine to know the starting and stopping point of the wrap as it is layered out through the surface wrap. I won't have a chance to see it done until next season but looks interesting.

My understanding is after 2015 the USDA says you cant use a round baler. Because the cows wern't getting a square meal.

I have been thinking about buying a Kuhn baler-wrapper but haven't been able to afford it yet. Around 100k, but everything can be done with one tractor and one person which is a huge advantage for me. There are a few around here. I figure you need to bale a minimum of 3000 bales per year to justify the cost of a new one. Also a heavy enough tractor.

If you are looking at a Kuhn FBP2135, we use a JD7430 to pull it and are on the limits of traction on the hills. We run in mainly hill country. When we update the tractor it will probably be in the 170/180hp bracket either with duals or wide singles.
We used to use a 6920, it was to small for the hills ,but the 7430 has proved more economical, and does the job easier.
You don't give any indication what type of country you are on.
