I just found this website and think it will be a great help.
Has anyone seen or built an attachment for their 3 point and bale spear that allows them to lift their round bales high enough to stack. I saw a picture of one once and would like to make one. Thanks, DJ

Go to page 6 in this "Build-It Yourself" forum... I posted one a while back I made from an old pallet jack..., complete with pics. Maybe it will give you some ideas. Not pretty, but works great..!!

My uncle built me a scissor lift, but my Ford 2000 wasn't large enough in the hydraulics dept. to lift my 4X4/ 580 lb bales... So I built this...

Thanks for the reply. I may be thinking of something like the scissor lift you mention. Would you by any chance have any pictures of it. Thansk, DJ

Another way to build a purely mechanical rear end loader, is like they make post hole diggers: there is no top link, but the main frame beam is also your top link. this gives additional lift height. http://www.wifo.nl/uk/ukframeprod.htm
I think someone posted pics of that last year, attached to a JD 3020 or so.
The length of this arm should depend on the weight of the bale, the intended lift height and the size of your tractor. Dry hay bales will be not much of a problem, but some wrapped silage bales weigh up to a ton.

I found a picture of one similar to mine...

Oh yeah... Forgot to mention, watch your fingers when mounting, if you make one..!!

Thanks for the picture. That is what I want to try to build. Do you still have yours and would you be willing to send me a few measurements from it?
Thanks again, DJ

I'll try and get you some measurements tomorrow...

Sorry it took so long to reply... Been working dirt to fill in a pond, and wanted to get as much done, before the rain came...

I measured the scissor lift this morning... Using the picture I posted for reference... The double arms are 30" in length. This is just the arms, not including the cross piece..

The center arm is 25", not including the cross piece...

The hinge pin is 9" on center, above the cross piece on the center arm. And 15", O.C. of the 30 inchers... Looks like a 3/4" hingepin.

Didn't think to measure the width of the drawbar part. Should be able to get some measurements from any 3 pt. implement you have... On the end where your spear, or carrier hooks... Just remember to make it narrow enough to fit inside what ever your using, and allow room to clear... Bolts are used here, as it is impossible to use pins like on the other end, because it is in a fixed position...

I also didn't get the degree of angle on the tabs where the implement attaches.. I can get them after the rain lets up.. Plus the length of the toplink attach point. and length of the tabs...

Hopefully this will be enough to get you started...

Did a little more measuring this afternoon between showers...

The tractor end top link hookup, is 8 inches long to the center of the hole.

The tabs that the spear, or what ever implement you will be hooking to it are welded on at a 45コ angle. The tabs are 6" long.. If I remember correctly, it may not hurt to have them a dab longer, to allow for clearance. But you may do a test fit, and see what works for you. Hope this helps...!!
