A synthetic 5W-40 diesel oil is going to work in almost any engine, especially one that has a few decade old spec of 10W-30 dino oil.

I’m in Southeast Louisiana. I have a newly rebuilt Yanmar YM2500 with the 3 cylinder Yanmar 3T80 diesel engine. It gets very hot here and the humidity is unbearable at times. I was going to use 15w-40 engine oil, until I did research online and found what Steve posted.

Here is notes that I’ve taken on what I’ll be using in my tractor:

Engine Oil:

-Shell Rotella T1 SAE 30 weight straight grade diesel engine oil

-4.5 quarts

-Sold at Walmart, Tractor Supply,
and O’Reilly’s

Transmission/Hydraulic Oil:

-21 Quarts, John Deere JDM J20C or
Yanmar TF500A. This is known as
Hygard. Aftermarket oil must “meet” JDM J20C specs, not be “compatible” with.

-Tractor Supply “Traveller Universal
Premium Tractor Fluid Trans/Hydraulic and Walmart “Super Tech Tractor Heavy Duty Transmission & Hydraulic Oil” meets JDM J20C specs.

Thanks for everyone who as posted on this subject. I have been using Rotella T6 5w40 for the last several years in my YM155d, YM2210d, and YM1510d. I have not had any issues that I know of, but I don't want to have any either. I know 40wt oil will protect better at higher temps but if it retains more heat I really don't want to have any head issues or issues with oil feeding if it is to think for the passages. I will probably switch my tractors to T6 10w30 from now on.
