Hi,

One of my blades got bent unbelievably bad last year. Just hammered it back to being flat-ish, but I suspect stress will eventually cause drastic failure.

I contacted Berta about replacements, and they claim you have to replace all four if one gets damaged. €170 + shipping. It seems kind of dodgy to me-- the part that wears out the most is the replaceable tip, and I just wonder whether I couldn't put the new blade next to one of the old ones and "wear it down" with an angle grinder, whatever few mm's of difference there might be.

Anyone in the US successfully just replaced one damaged blade?

don't replace them. there are four points of wear on them. you can flip them on their x and y axis to access all 4 points. Just flip the bad one to a different edge and reinstall it.

The problem isn't the little flippable part, but the rest of the blade.

Since I posted, I plowed for planting potatoes without any problem. I think I'll just keep using it till the blade breaks. If it does break, then it just means I finish whatever plowing more slowly using just one side of the reversible rotary plow.

Oh the big spinning blade part? the heavy thing? I'd take it to a machine shop and have them weld on material, grind it smooth. they do that with regular ploughs

Yea, the big blade, not the tip. That's a good idea. Should be cheaper than ordering 4 new ones. I'll ask my big farmer friend where he takes stuff like that to get fixed.
