rotary cutter questions for B2910

I'm getting a good argument from the Kubota dealer as to why they recommend a 4' rotary cutter. I mean they are adamant that a 5' cutter is too much and if I still chose to go with one then they are suggesting the Bushhog RZ60R which seems (by looking at specs) to be a lesser cutter than the SQ480 and a lot lesser than the 5' Squealer cutter. What are folks running with their 2910 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif?

I have an Iseki TL1900F (23hp engine 19hp PTO) that I use a 5ft Lowery (light duty) cutter behind. In the less dense high stuff it will cut it pretty good and the cutter is also wider than the tractor. In the thick high stuff (including 1-2" bushes/trees), it will cut it, but you do have to REALLY slow down. If you have the time and/or don't have that much really thick, high stuff, I think the B2910 will handle it fine especially since you'll have more HP. I do have a lot of that thick, high stuff and know it will get out of hand, so I recently added a new toy (tool) to my barn, a Kubota L4330 with a Rhino SE6 cutter (still supposedly standard duty, but what a hefty standard duty cutter it is).

I just checked the Kubota site to see why the dealer is giving you such a fuss on the 5' cutter and saw on the spec's that the b2910 is only 22hp at the PTO. I'm guessing here is where he is sizing the 4' cutter for your tractor.

I think most 5' cutters are rated at 25 or higher and I know I told you a couple of post back that 5' is what you want to have maybe I should eat "them there words" you maybe a little under powered for a 5' cutter.

Check how wide the tractors backend is with a tape form outside to outside of the tires if your at 4' then maybe you should go with his advice. The reasion I say this is if your cutting with a tractor that has a mover with a smaller width than the tractor it won't take long and you won't be able to see the fence row anymore being the grass and dog fennels will grow and you can't get to them with the mower.

Sorry for the bad advice on my part with the 5' mower a day or so ago, maybe I should learn to keep my yapper shut sometimes.

I use a Howse 5ft. cutter behind my B2710 with no problems. I would get the 5ft. cutter and don't worry about it.

I ordered a 5 foot wood BB60CW for my B2910, but I don't have thick grass to cut, just brush and weeks and small stuff growing on a couple acres...

With that grass your situation may be different. 53 inches is about right for the rear tire width with R4 tires on a B2910...

You're getting bad advice. That tractor has to have a 5-foot cutter or you will be sorely disappointed. I have a 2710 with 2 less PTO horsepower and run a Rhino SE5 cutter with no problems 95% of the time. I suppose there could always be a time when you are in thick wet growth it might bog down a little, but the 4-footer probably would too. I run full out in medium range most of the time with mine. If you get a 4-footer it will look silly (not that it matters) and you won't even be able to cut the tractor width.

You can slow down a 5-footer if needed, but you can't make a 4-footer wider.

53" outside width may be right; I thought it was 54". But I agree with Von, Henro, and Alan. I had a perfectly good 4' Squealer for my B7100 when I bought the B2710 and I very promptly traded it for a 5' one. Now of course, it isn't going to make nickels worth of difference to us no matter what you buy, and I'm usually reluctant to go against what a dealer and/or the manufacturer recommend, but in this case, I've used both sizes, and I sure didn't want to spend the money to trade up to a 5' brush hog, but I did it and know it was worth the cost.

I think you'd really be disappointed with a 4' brush hog on that tractor, but I also think you should buy what you are comfortable with.

I'll chime in here with a different consideration, but probably the same recommendation to get a 5' mower.

I have a 2910 and use a 4' mower, not because I selected it, but rather because I had it before from a smaller tractor.

Every reason I can think of says 5' is the better choice EXCEPT for one consideration, and that's weight in combination with hilly terrain. I have some pretty nasty spots on my property (the tilt meter hits 20 deg), and I wouldn't want any more weight on the back that I have with the 4' cutter when navigating those hills, especially turning on them. If it weren't for this, I'd trade in for a 5' cutter in a second.

So, if you have reasonably level ground, I'd double second the 5' recommendation.
