Which slip clutch is best on a Rhino 172 rotary cutter? Double disc or single disc?

Guess someone would have to show me one, but I have never seen a single disc PTO clutch

Me neither. What I have is a double disc. That is all I have ever seen, but I have heard talk of single disc clutches. I really don't know.

The only way I can see a single disc working is if the disc hub itself were splined like an automotive clutch.....which would cost alot more to ever make or replace vs just bare friction discs.

I think the "talk" you have heard were from mis0informed people, as every clutch disc I have seen has had two disc's
