Rotary Cutter Discharge

Do you recommend a side or rear discharge on a finish mower and why?

I have never seen a rotary cutter with anything but a rear discharge. Are you possibly talking about a rear finish mower?

I have a side discharge finish mower and wish I had gotten a rear discharge .. why ... I am not happy with the windrows it leaves ...

Get a rear discharge. It's easier to cut up next to stuff. Rear discharge won't leave a windrow so much, but it will leave clumps of grass if it's real high and/or wet.

There are plenty of side discharge rear mounted finish mowers and some folks like them. Not having tried one, I can't say, but I have had two rear discharge, rear mounted finish mowers and really like them. If the grass is high or wet as has been said clumps will remain. The rear safety chains on my bush hog model will sweep them up into piles as you drive. I have taken the chains off and also put gator mulching blades on and am quite happy with the result.

my 72" MMM is a side discharge. the rear discharge decks are built a lot diffrent as to not haveing to toss all the clippings out the right side.

If i leave the discharge flap down, it windrows so bad it looks like ive raked it and am going to bail it.

IF i had to choose i would pick rear discharge.

Rear discharge cause it can cut taller grass easier and better, also you can cut closer to trees, buildings...etc on both sides of cutter which reduces your cut time.
