Is it worth going from a 5ft to a 6ft brush hog on a Montana 3840 and if it is I am hearing that if you don't use them often that slip clutches don't work all that well.

I run a 6 foot behind a 3040. I have to take smaller swipes in really thick and tall stuff but for most it is just fine. If you have R-4 tires I do not think a 5 foot will cover the tire width and will make it impossible to mow next to fences and the like.

I dont know about the slip clutch, I have a shear bolt and for as many times as it shears it is not enough of a a problem for me to justify the cost of slip clutch.

Just got a 6 foot, have run a 4 and 5 foot behind it (4344 hst, so 38 hp on the pto)
We have broke 2 shear bolts the first day; the 6 footer is heavy to get going. I am looking into a slip clutch; the shear bolts are hard to change alone. Search for slip clutches on the fourm, you will learn how to maintain them
it cuts well enough but if you have thick grass you will feel it. If I has to run on hog, it would be a 5 footer, running 2 I'll keep my 4 and 6.
