That chain looks pretty stretched- take a picture of it with the chain removed, so we can see what the wear on the sprockets looks like. That chain will most likely have a number as its designation ie: 60 or 80 roller chain. Sometimes it's stamped on the chains, usually it's stamped on the sprockets ie: 60X25 (# 60 chain, 25 teeth- don't rely on my memory, the order might be reversed!) Try surpluscenter.com- they sell both chain and sprockets, and might be able to tell you what you have, from your measurements.
The link that is damaged is whats known as a half link. There is a single pin on the end that is damaged that is normally held in by a cotter pin.The other end will hooked with a master link , the chain size is most often stamped on the side of the chain ex. 60,80 .

Is it supposed to be literally a "half link"? 'Cuz when you look at how the link plates alternate, between "inner" and "outer", there's obviously an "extra" plate in there. I wonder if that also accounts for how loose the chain appears. IOW, take out that half link, re-assemble with the regular outer-inner plate sequence, and remove the slack in the process. Does that make sense? Should anything chain-driven have that much slack?
Tonight I actually looked at that 2nd picture! Wow- is that a homemade set-up? I see a lot of torch work and weld boogers! I also see that the front sprocket is a little worn, and that that is a half link that appears to have lost its retainer pin, or possibly a botched homemade chain modification. Most of these chains are made to run in oil, but in this gearbox, I can see daylight in the area of the small sprocket. Is it possible a small rock got into the works, and knocked the retainer off? If it were mine, I'd probably put a block of locust wood, shaped as a chain tightener, after replacing the master link, slap some grease on it and sell at an auction a reasonable distance from home!
