Robin Engine 500 Hour Maintenance

Today I made the valve clearance adjustment recommend at 500 hours on my PT422 Robin-Subaru engine. The hardest part was rotating the shaft to the proper position. I could not see the timing mark on the flywheel, so I turned the shaft with a large pair of slip joint pliers until the compression was at a max and the cylinder head that I was working on had the valves fully closed. The recommend gap was 0.085 to 0.115 (nominal 0.1) mm. I did end up make adjustments in all of the valves. I do not see a difference in the way the engine runs, but it is good to have this done. I replaced the rocker arm cover gaskets, especially since one was leaking and damaged a little bit, probably from a previous removal to create clearance while changing the starter motor.

Overall not a partically difficult task.
