road lghts safety question

I just got finished building a deck and back wall on a KK carryall. I didn 't notice 'till I finished that in raised position my tail lights and flasher lights are covered up. Also SMV sign on back of seat is partially covered. I live in Louisiana. I don 't do ,uch public road driving at all and when I do its only a 1/4 mile or so. I wonder if I can travel legal on public road with just a visible SMV sign on carryall.

Remember that "legal" and "safely" are two different things. I REALLY want to be sure that other motorists see me when I'm on a public road. My advise is to be sure that the lights are visible or add additional lights.

Have you ever travelled the roads and come up on an obscure, unlit, hard to see, slow moving object in the road? Hopefully that object isn't you. But suspect you see that and will fix it.

Yes, I will correct it just not sure yet how. I 'm sure not into relocating factory lights. Maybe self contained battery pack flasher lights on the carryall, SMV sign, and reflectors. In the mean time no road driving for me. I ain 't gonna snuff myself after livin' all these years avoidin' others tryin' to do it .

just add another SMV emblem on the carry all. don't you have a rops light? with one facing rearward, Its all you need for safety.

I have a pair of small halogens that face to the rear. Not "legal" because you aren't supposed to have rearward facing lights. But, then, I f I was "legal" I'd also have a plate!

Anyway, can't have enough visibility, and the halogens take it to the extreme. The greater the contrast your light is from the environment, the faster you will be noticed.

Just remember, people can't see motorcycles (they shouldn't have a license), the tractor trailer I drive, or emergency vehicles. For road safety it's best to think you are invisible and drive like you can't be seen.

I suspect that in the USA each state has it's own rules regarding tractor lights and insurance on a public road. In British Columbia where I live if you cause an accident due to no or improper lights I think you will get sued big time. Sure it's the same down there. Best to make sure you are legal rather than be big time sorry if something happens. Putting proper lights on not only keeps other people safe but you as well.
