So I've got a leaking axle seal on my RK55HC. Does anyone know if this would be covered under the 8-year powertrain warranty? Finding someone who works in the tractor dept. at my local RK is like finding a leprechaun.

Anyway, the fix seems pretty involved. Axle half/housing has to come off, which means the cab has to come off, or at the very least be loosened and suspended (since it is partially supported by the axle housing). Even if it were covered under warranty, I don't think my RK is equipped to handle this kind of job.

I'm located in central FL, and may just end up taking it to a local tractor dealership and have them do the work.

g8erh8er, seems like the posting on the RK forum has pretty well died off. Not sure where you stand on this issue but I would think it would be under warranty. Have you gone any further with getting this repaired.

Hi Don. I went and talked with the sole mechanic at my local RK. He said he’s done several rear main seals on RK55’s and they aren’t covered in the warranty. Anyway, he’s got several months of backlog and I’m not in any rush. Something he said did make me question his methods though. I asked how the cab is supported during the procedure, because there are lifting rings on the back side. He said he leaves it unsupported and the cab support that sits atop the axle housing will drop a few inches when the housing is removed and must be jacked back up when the axle housing is put back on. Maybe I miss heard him, but that sounds like the cab structure is undergoing undue stress using that method.

It sounds to me that he's trying to blowing smoke up the backside concerning the warranty. Usually warranties don't cover expendables like filters, spark plugs and so forth but a seal..... I think i would try contacting RK directly on this. Can't do any harm other than waste some time on hold. As far as supporting the cab I agree it seems that there would be undue stress. Be nice to be able to see what the written maintenance procedure is for this.
