Just curious how does that screen filter come out?

I found the screen, on paper at least. Perusing the rk tractors website I discovered the parts manuals for all rk tractors. If you look at page 98 of the RK 24 parts list, key # 14 you will see that is the suction strainer and from there you can get a general idea of its location. I looked at mine briefly and it actually looks like it might be accessible from the wheel well (left side facing front end). I will know for sure this weekend when I finish my 50 hour service.

Hope this helps

This is the location of the suction screen. Changed out fluids, filters and cleaned screen. There was very little metal shavings on the magnet. Overall the service was a success. Total inspection did not find any loose connections or problems other than the horn wires were broken.

Did Rural King have the filters in stock? How much of which brand/spec of fluids did you use? Does the trans take the full 3.8 gal listed in the manual?
Planning to run to RK on Sunday to get the needed stuff. I rolled over 50hrs the other day.
Thanks!

RK had everything but the filters and a quart of gear lube they weresold out. They shipped them to me after a bit of a run around. my trans did not take the full amount. I think I ended up adding back about 4 gallons. I only drained through the plug on the side of the mid-PTO and not on the finals ( you will see there is a drain in each) as I wasnt totally sure that was it. I used an inspection mirror to watch my mark in the sight glass as I added oil back into it due to not removing the backhoe attachment.

A few things I noticed or learned while doing my service:

A) There is more the one drain plug on the transmission/Hydraulic system
B) Remove the hydraulic line that blocks the filter to have easier access. (thanks to Digdirty for that info) The filter is painted black so it blends in
C) have a larger pair of channel locks or a slip joint oil filter wrench to change the trans/hyde flter its a real PITA to get to
D) There is more than once place to add oil to the engine. (just to the right of the dipstick and at the top of the engine. I used the top )
E) Open the vents on the front axle then open the drain plugs (3) one on each final and one in the center ( grease your front axle while your at it) go eat lunch while it drains, it takes awhile
F) Be patient filling the front axle, it takes some time and leave the vent plugs out until you reach the mark on the dipstick
G) Lube all your filter gaskets- apparently they do not at assembly because both were a bear to get loose.

once everything was replaced I fired her up and ran the hydraulics through their paces sever times and ran around the yard then went back and topped off the trans/hyde oil. checked the front axle and engine oil. Also blew out the air filter and cleaned the housing.

This was sent to me by the RK tractor guy ( He is awesome by the way, Quick response and informative answers) this will help you with amounts to add and help you find the materials in your local RK or the associate. Your pricing may be different depending on your location. Supposedly they are working on putting a kit together that you can buy to do 50 hour or 150 hour service so the lady at my RK told me.

Awesome. Thanks. Guess I'll call the store and see if they have everything in stock. The filter SKU's don't even show up on the website.

Definitely worth calling ahead, especially if the store is newer at selling tractors. I got filters for my 50 hour service last week and it took some time and searching around to find all the right parts. They are good about shipping stuff to you that they don't have in stock as well.

I called. They have several of each in stock, so I should be good.
