I have a 15 acre field. I bought the land last fall. It's been rented out to farmers for many years. It varies from silty loam to heavy compacted clay. I think the clay areas have a bit of hardpan. If you dig down about 8" with a spade, in some spots, the soil gets very hard to dig through. It's got a lot of rocks. Most are small, up to maybe 2" diameter, but there are some up to about 8" diameter. It's covered with grass and leftover stems from last years planting.
The long term plan for the field is a combination of perennial grasses and no-till plantings. Toward this end, I would like to pull out the bigger rocks in the topsoil, break up the hardpan, and turn under the grass and old stems. One last hurrah to clean up the field before leaving the dirt alone.
I'm getting a Kioti DK4510HS (45 Horsepower, 4200lbs including loaded tires before adding the loader.) If I do the work myself, rather than hiring a farmer with a big tractor, what attachments should I be looking to rent or borrow to do the job efficiently?
