I have read (but have no direct knowledge) that JD Service Advisor for customer use is a $500 annual subscription.

This seems to be an interesting balance of consumer rights, 'it's business' and Government oversight (or interference if you choose).


Personally, I'm in favor of businesses doing the right thing for customer service.

That's a lot less than I would have thought. If it saves you two service calls you break even, good deal if you have multiple machines the program can talk to.

Just figure out that DJI Drones can NOT be repaired... it has to be sent back. Each part has a serial number and those number have to match what on the main board. If numbers don't match, it will not work. DJI sucks... (but I'm not bitter... NOT).

Auto Care Association Responds to Alliance for Automotive Innovation Lawsuit in Massachusetts

BETHESDA, Md. November 23, 2020 The following statement can be attributed to Bill Hanvey, president and CEO, Auto Care Association:

On Nov. 3, the citizens of Massachusetts made their voices loud and clear on the issue of vehicle data access, with an overwhelming 75% of voters supporting ballot Question 1. Unfortunately, the vehicle manufacturers are once again ignoring the will of the people and have instead chosen to pursue legal action against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in an effort to halt the implementation of Question 1. The Auto Care Association is very disappointed to see this pattern of behavior from the vehicle manufacturers against the American people, who want the right to control their vehicle mechanical data and to share it with their independent repair shops.

I totally get that the manufacturers don't want customers tweaking with emissions settings, or accessing proprietary firmware, but why can't they come with something similar to the OBD system that's been in autos for the last 25 years with a standardized interface and codes?
No excuse for an owner to have to bring it to a dealer to reset the ECU when you change the oil or replace an alternator or something like that.

The OBDII interface was mandated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Feds adopted it, forcing all OEs to put the standardized interface into all vehicles for emissions related purposes. The OEs then used it to add their own proprietary interfaces through the same connection. Each OE has their own software tool but the emissions systems must be compliant to the OBDII standard. If troubles are not emissions related, the codes do not have to appear on an OBDII device. So even in the auto world, the OE's have major differences.

The only way manufacturers will comply is with a Federal mandate. They will scream that standardization takes away their competitive edge. As consumers, we want to be able to fix things or to have them fixed by people we designate - not necessarily the people the OE designates.

If the auto industry hasn't sorted this yet, do we have a chance in the farm machinery segment?

I wish those companies would be forced to put a sticker on the package "this product can not be fixed by you". Or "You have no Rights to repair this product"

I did get my money back from DJI - returned that drone within 90 days.... it was fun but they are just toys to me.
