I think there was alot of issues with those axles. Jack up the front end and see if you got a lot of play in the assembly. Don.t drive it. People will be along to help you out.

Is this MFWD? Just put new bearing on my dad's 1050 with MFWD. Same axel on certain years. Outer bearing completely shot. No damage to the drive gears so it was a simple bearing replacement.

Any damage to the gears will require someone with knowledge to set the backlash.

MFWD or not ? Will be good to know. Check for loose wheel and loose tie rod ends.

What were the front axle issues with the 950?

There were scuffing issues with the 4x00's but hadn't heard about the 950's having issues.

I could be wrong. I thought 850 and 950 shared the same axle. Guy I worked with had an 850 he had to replace front axle parts two or three different times. His wife used to mow with it and left it in 4wheel all the time and dealer that fixed it said that could be why he had the issues with it. I know he was Hot about the whole deal!
