My re-engined, Honda harmony HDA2113 is showing its age, certainly, but the engine isn't all that old ( 2 years) and I have replaced the deck bearings not long ago. So it's ready for another life, except that the transmission packed up not long since. I understand the transmission is made by Sundstrand, specifically for Honda and is no longer available. Here in Australia the price of any replacement hydro transmission would make anybody's eyes water and there generally isn't much available anyway. Looking on the 'net, I see Hydro-Gear and Tuff-Torq to be seemingly the leading brands and from my reading, it seems that Tuff-Torq has the edge by a small margin. However, I have a few questions for the membership and the first is general opinion of either the HG or the TT units?
The mower is used as a 'maid of all work' and it is used to pull a small trailer in general work around my place. The trailer can be pretty heavy at times. A cubic yard of heavy (hardwood) firewood, say.
Are the bolting centres I see on most transmissions 'standardised': most seem to have a pattern of at least two holes cast into the axle housings? Can anybody give me the exact dimensions of the TT and HG units?
The TTK46/K58/K66 are often mentioned and the HG K1132 and 1112 series 2000 as has the G370.
I'd like to use the wheels from the Honda which allow 3/4" diameter axles with single keyways. Do the 3/4" axles limit the choices? Clearly, 1" axles would be more robust.
Price for a complete, new transmission seems to be around $US700 or so. Is that price OK and can it be bettered? Freight to Australia seems to be about $US70, which is quite OK by me.
I have a small engineering shop, so 'alterations' to the mower chassis or whatever are something I'd do, for sure.
I also have a Toro model 74386 zero-turn mower. What brand transmissions does this machine use and what is the general opinion of the Toro?

How does this unit compare to the ones you are looking at?

PEERLESS HYDROSTATIC TRANSAXLE
The Peerless unit is certainly price competitive: it seems to have oil/fluid change provisions, unlike my Sundstrand which was a 'set and forget' - until it breaks down - job. What I don't know is how the Peerless compares with the seemingly market-leading TuffTorq and Hydro Gear units and that's my question of the membership, tapping into their experience.
Having said that, though, it has 3/4" axles and that's a plus.
Another unknown would be the freight to Australia. I'd shop very much more often on the 'net, sourcing from the US, if it weren't for the extraordinary US freight costs usually advertised. Freight costs are a major disincentive. I had looked at some TT and HG units on another site, which quoted around $70 for freight to Australia and that seems reasonable.
Are there more detailed specs and dimensional data available for the Peerless?

Thanks for the input

Any lawn tractor transmission that uses a keyway shaft is LIGHT DUTY . For hills and hauling loads. The transmission should be setup to use 5 bolt hubs on the drive axles.
The K66 is a near bolt in for the puny K46. The K66 also also offers the differential lock option and uses the 5 bolt hubs.
