I remember putting 12 quarts in the first time I changed it. It was way too full. I double checked the manual called the dealer here and another one and finally the NH tech line and all of them told me I WAS doing something wrong. They kept saying it's 12 quarts. NOT according to my dipstick. Then they tried to tell me I voided my warranty using synthetic oil! I have completely lost faith in this company after this and other stuff that has gone wrong with mine. Since I just fill it to the full mark, 8 quarts, and don't buy anything from the dealer anymore. I just discovered they cut and tied my seat switch wires back together last time they worked on it too. Too cheap to even use butt connectors on it.
I think the discrepancy in the manual comes from some nut that never saw a tractor before sitting in an office doing the conversions from metric to english. It's all I can think of.
The metric to English units arguement doesn't hold water. The quart is smaller than the liter by roughly 6%. Assuming that Italy, where my tractor was made, uses the metric system and the volume for a refill with a filter changes was 12 liters, the the refill volume in quarts would be 1.0567 * 12 = 12.68 qts. Going the other way, if it was specified as 12 quarts then that would be 12/1.0567 = 11.36 liters.
No, it's just a plain screw up, probably copied from a bigger displacement engine and nobody caughtthe error when they wrote the manual. This stuff happens but gosh for a 2007 tractor, you'd think it would be common knowledge by now and everybody who sells and services these machines would know what the correct refill quantity is. I think the dipstick is most likely correct and the specified quantity is wrong. My Ford 4610 has a 201 cu in engine and it takes 7 quarts with the filter change. The TD95D engine is a little bigger (238 cu in) and it has a turbo so I'd expect more oil since it's used to cool the piston crown, etc and it has to lube the turbo also. But 5 quarts more oil does not intuitively seem correct. More like 2 quarts is what I'd expect, leaving me to believe it sshould be more like 9 quarts, not 12 quarts.
Did you notice any adverse effects from the 12 quart refill? I presume you ran it that way til the next oil change.
I'm still waiting to hear from the local dealerwho has asked the CNH folks back East for an answer. NH does not have a large presence here in the Northern Rockies where it's mainy JD country but they are trying to expand. They left the market here a while back and are trying to make a come back but they just don't sell a lot of new equipment yet. They are a branch of a dealership in Dillon, MT, about 250 miles away.
If it turns out to be fill to the dipstick indicator, I'll use my suction gun and pull out the overfill. The dealer asked me to make sure that I had the correct dipstick and the part number matched the parts catalog. I also noticed I was missing a seal on the dipstick cap so i've ordered that.
