I just did an engine oil & oil filter change on my 2007 TD95D and per the owners manual, the refill oil quantity is specified at 3 gallons(12 quarts). I put in 3 gallons of Delo 400 15W40 and ran it for about 5 minutes off idle after refilling. I checked the oil and the level is above the max mark on the dip stick. I rechecked again after sitting over night and it still way above the max mark on the dip stick. So either the dipstick is mismarked or the specified refill quantity in the owners manual AND the repair manual is in error. I have a call into my local dealer but I thought I might get a quicker answer here.

What say you?

Mine only takes 8 quarts with a oil and filter change. The book confused me too. It's the same year as yours. I guess if you blew down the oil cooler lines and the turbo it would maybe get another quart but I can't see it.

Somehow I started two threads on the same subject.

Thanks for your response.
I have a call into the dealer who is contacting CNH tech support. So far I have four possibe refill quantities: your 8 quarts, RickB's 10 quarts and Jbrink64's 12 quarts and the Owner's Manual and Shop Manuals 12 quarts. I have a gut feel that the dipstick is correct and the manuals are wrong.
I should hear back from CNH via the local dealer tomorrow and I'll post the reply. It's kind of frustrating to have this kind of error floating around almost four model years after the tractor went into sevice. They sold a lot of these tractors and I gotta' believe this question has come up before.

Thanks again for the info.

I remember putting 12 quarts in the first time I changed it. It was way too full. I double checked the manual called the dealer here and another one and finally the NH tech line and all of them told me I WAS doing something wrong. They kept saying it's 12 quarts. NOT according to my dipstick. Then they tried to tell me I voided my warranty using synthetic oil! I have completely lost faith in this company after this and other stuff that has gone wrong with mine. Since I just fill it to the full mark, 8 quarts, and don't buy anything from the dealer anymore. I just discovered they cut and tied my seat switch wires back together last time they worked on it too. Too cheap to even use butt connectors on it.
I think the discrepancy in the manual comes from some nut that never saw a tractor before sitting in an office doing the conversions from metric to english. It's all I can think of.

The metric to English units arguement doesn't hold water. The quart is smaller than the liter by roughly 6%. Assuming that Italy, where my tractor was made, uses the metric system and the volume for a refill with a filter changes was 12 liters, the the refill volume in quarts would be 1.0567 * 12 = 12.68 qts. Going the other way, if it was specified as 12 quarts then that would be 12/1.0567 = 11.36 liters.

No, it's just a plain screw up, probably copied from a bigger displacement engine and nobody caughtthe error when they wrote the manual. This stuff happens but gosh for a 2007 tractor, you'd think it would be common knowledge by now and everybody who sells and services these machines would know what the correct refill quantity is. I think the dipstick is most likely correct and the specified quantity is wrong. My Ford 4610 has a 201 cu in engine and it takes 7 quarts with the filter change. The TD95D engine is a little bigger (238 cu in) and it has a turbo so I'd expect more oil since it's used to cool the piston crown, etc and it has to lube the turbo also. But 5 quarts more oil does not intuitively seem correct. More like 2 quarts is what I'd expect, leaving me to believe it sshould be more like 9 quarts, not 12 quarts.

Did you notice any adverse effects from the 12 quart refill? I presume you ran it that way til the next oil change.

I'm still waiting to hear from the local dealerwho has asked the CNH folks back East for an answer. NH does not have a large presence here in the Northern Rockies where it's mainy JD country but they are trying to expand. They left the market here a while back and are trying to make a come back but they just don't sell a lot of new equipment yet. They are a branch of a dealership in Dillon, MT, about 250 miles away.

If it turns out to be fill to the dipstick indicator, I'll use my suction gun and pull out the overfill. The dealer asked me to make sure that I had the correct dipstick and the part number matched the parts catalog. I also noticed I was missing a seal on the dipstick cap so i've ordered that.

Here's the latest from my local New Holland Dealer regarding the oil refill capacity for a TD95D. They admitted the manual specified capacities were in error. They said that this model used several different engines. She asked "So what'sthe correct refill quantity?" and they said the engine was the same as the JX95 (CaseIH) and it used the same dipstick (P/N 99441833). The Case IH numbers say 8.4 quarts to refill the crankcase + 0.74 qts to fill the filter for a total of 9.14 quarts. They apparently never specifically did give her a direct answer to what the TD95D was but it's safe to say that if the correct dipstick is used you will put the correct quantity in the crankcase. The service manager in Dillon (the main office for the local NH dealership) said, since I put three gallons in, drain off a gallon and refill to the dipstick. That will give me an idea of the correct quantity. That's what i was planning on doing. New Holland did say that they are going to revise the manuals.

So until I drain out some oil, I'll go with the 9.14 quarts and use the dipstick to to check.

Thanks for taking the time to to respond WTA. Glad I'm not the only one who questioned this.

Just to close this issue out, I removed about 2.9 quarts of oil from the 12 quarts I put into the crankcase today and that lowered the oil level to the "Max" mark on the P/N 99441833 dipstick in my tractor. This confirms the numbers i got from CNH yesterday.

I would call the engine oil refill capacity of the TD95D with the Iveco 8045.25L engine 9 quarts with an oil filter change.

Is yours the upside down oil filter with the oil cooler under it? Mine is. That's weird your's holds more than mine. I never ran it except for maybe a minute when I put 12 quarts in it. It was only long enough to fill the filter then shut it off and check it. Then I drained it down to the max mark. Going on 900 hours now and no problems.

Yep I have the upside down filter with the oil cooler beneath it. I was surprised when I removed the filter that it didn't pee oil all over the side of the block. I thought they had a" no drainback"valve on them. The filter seemed empty to me an it wasn't on very tight. Usually those factory filters are put on by a 1000 pound gorilla! I ran it for five minutes after I filled it with 12 quarts.
I pulled almost 3 quarts using a suction gun and it set right at the max mark on the dip stick. Is your dipstick P/N 99441833? That's the correct one for my tractor. The dealer said that HQ said they used three different engines on that tractor. Maybe your's is a different engine model. What does it say on the data plate for the engine model?I think if I pulled another quart out it would still be above the min level.
