I just did an oil & oil filter change on my 2007 TD95D and per the owners manual, the refill oil quantity is specified at 3 gallons(12 quarts). I put in 3 gallons of Delo 400 15W40 and ran it for about 5 minutes off idle after refilling. I checked the oil and the level is above the max mark on the dip stick. I rechecked again after sitting over night and it still way above the max mark on the dip stick. So either the dipstick is mismarked or the specified refill quantity in the ownwers manual AND the repair manual is in error. I have a call into my local dealer but I thought I might get a quicker answer here.

What say you?

The quantity in the manual is overstated. I don't recall ever being able to stuff more than 10 qts in a 4 cyl Iveco engine unless it was in a SSL or TLB which typically have deeper pans.

NH's EPRW (dealer-access online reference guide) has the same 3 gal capacity listed. So give them points for consistency if not accuracy.

I just heard from the local dealer and they quoted me the same number from the manual (actually 2.96 gallons)and asked for the part numnber of the dipstick. I checked that part number and and the dip stick matched the parts catalog number for a TD95D. They were going to check with the folks back East.

I filled the crankcase from the dipstick hole. Is ther any reason that you know of that would require using the upper fill hole on the top of the engine to replenish the oil?

Not in a tractor application. Those engines are built for use in many, many applications, often unforseen at the time of design. Two oil fill locations are not uncommmon for a multi-use engine.

Reading the service literature and double checking the dipstick part number is about all someone can do unless they have experience servicing that particular model along with a recollection of how it went. I can recall servicing a couple different TD95's and they just don't hold 3 gallons of engine oil.

I just put 12 qts in a TD85D. Was really surprised it held that much.

Geeez, I dunno...

If it's the correct dipstick, I would go with the level it says. Hopefully it's the correct filter, regarding capacity and drain back valves.

I haven't seen a discrepancy on an Iveco dipstick.

Maybe Ambra quarts are different :)

I used a NH filter (part # 47135703) and according to the NH TD95D parts list, I have the correct dipstick (part # 99441833). The dipstick has a "S" shaped bend in it and the oil level goes into the bend and the Max mark is ~3/4" below that (guestimate). The oil level before I made the change was at the Max mark. The seal is missing from the dispstick and that will make the discrepancy slightly less (by the thickness of the seal) but there's still a big discrepancy, nonetheless.

Rregarding the filter, I drained the pan and then came back a half hour later and removed the filter.
When I removed the original factory filter(This machine had 107.6 hrs onit), I was expecting oil to run down the side of the engine because of it's mainly verticle orientation. That didn't happen. The filter was virtully empty. Never had that happen on any filter with that orientation.

This oil quantity issue is puzzling to me. I can't believe I'm the only guy with one of these machines that is having this issue. It's not like they only built three of these tractors! The dealer said they would call Tech Support back East (Racine, WI is where I believe CNH is located) and would probably have an answer on Monday. I'll keep you posted on what feedback get.

RickB and Jbrink64, thanks for your responses thus far. If you come up with anymore info please let me know.

Did you open up all the drain plugs? Mine has 2. Not sure about yours.

Mine only has one engine oil drain. I've never seen one have two drains.
