I have heard people talk about Rhino Coating the underside of a mower deck. I am wondering if any one has tried it and if so does the grass bald up under the deck or does it still flow out smooth? Wish I had tried this on my bush hog as it has rusted though in 10 tears.

The grass would build up easier with the coating...causing more problems than it's worth. The coating has a bit of a tacky surface, not slippery or smooth. Cleaning off the grass from the underside should eliminate most of the rusting problems. After cleaning, make sure to look for any bare spots and touch them up with some regular paint.

Yeah, I would think if you coated it with anything it would be Teflon. Or, maybe whatever non-stick surface they use on pots & pans.

Blast to white metal and coat with a two part epoxy coating.

You could use some Enecon metalclad, but it is expensive. Probably need two or three kits for a 6 foot mower. About $400/kit.

I agree. And the coating would eventually peel off in places, thus exposing bare metal again and it would be a mess.

There's probably a very good reason why none of the mower manufacturers offer this as an option or upgrade - because it would be counterproductive.

I have used Rhino Coatings twice and were very unhappy with the product.

Line-X I have used 4 times now and very pleased with it.

I have also used Rustoleum to which I will reserve my opinion a few more months before giving feedback on that.

Thanks guys, Well trying to get ahead of the game. We mow about 10 acres a week 1/2 with a 5 ft Land Pride finishing mower behind a L 2600 and 1/2 with a BX 2670 with 5 ft finishing mower (my wife's). I use a high pressure wash every 2 weeks then re grease. Some of the grass my wife cuts is like a "water grass" and it packs under the deck bad ... no wait it packs solid.

In Florida we have a problem with sand eating up the decks I talked to a man who is in lawn care business runs three crews. He takes every new mower deck and scuffs paint and sprays bedliner on them he says he gets double or more of life out of them might not apply to all areas but he says it works here great mowing

Have you considered a flail mower for the areas your wife mows?

IT sounds like if the grass it growing that fast, you need to mow more often and not let it get so tall. Clogging under the deck is sign of mowing wet or too tall. I would mow it down about half of what you normally cut then come back in 2-3 days and cut it down about 30% of the standing height that is left. This should do much better about the clogging. After you get it to a manageable height, cut it again whenever it grows not more than 3" above the just mown height (whatever that frequency might be).
