Revolvers

   / Revolvers #31
I am in the market for a 357 revolver but there is no hurry because there is no ammo any where for any caliber around here. I like the Smith & Wesson 686. The Ruger GP100 looks interesting but I have never handled one. I am looking for a high quality gun that I can depend on. I will never wear it in public but it might get left in the cab of the tractor or the gator so it needs to withstand the weather. Anyone have recommendations of a better quality gun that I should be looking at?
The best wheel gun(revolver) made is a colt python. If you can find a good used one at a decent price buy it as they do not make them any more.coobie.

Python has the name and fame. But it was built using leaf springs - and it is tremendous PITA to tune, unlike coil springs.

My $0.02 only, of course.

If you get a Rugar, S&W, Taurus you won't go wrong. All 3 of those companies make good revolvers. Just pick the one that fits your hand best.

Yep...what he said....but buy one in SS if your going to leave it on your tractor or in a wet environment. I have two Rugers and a Taurus in 357.....the Ruger is a better gun. All will be around when I am gone....but I don't shoot handguns much.

Just remember that any gun will fail if left in the weather or neglected. Its a precision machine and needs cared for as such.

In my experience, Taurus doesn't compare in quality to Ruger or S&W revolvers.

Yes, I often carry a Taurus 605, but it took two factory replacements to get one that shot reliably and accurately. The one I have is fine, but Taurus depends on the customers to provide quality control.

Uberti makes good stuff - they've been producing high quality cap and ball revolvers for decades and in the last 15 years started producing cartridge pieces - mostly in the Colt SAA pattern. not a "name" brand, but nothing wrong with them.
