Review of 4500

First 100hrs-good
100-150hrs-fair
186hrs-scrap metal!!!
Power steering lines started leaking between 50-100hrs
Brush clearing broke off starter solenoid
At 186 hours engine started knocking-was told it was probably igniters so I tried to get it back to house from the field where it sat all winter. Rod through the block!
No short block available-$5000+ labor for a new motor.
Warrenty expired the month it started knocking and factory says "tough luck".
I only used this tractor to mow and plant food plot since the farm is in a CRP Program. Very light use.
Now I am back to my 30y/o MF230 which still works fine.
If you are looking at Mahindra Tractors, think twice and keep looking.

Did you keep oil in it? I am just trying top understand. Nothing should throw a rod with only 186 hours on it.

Did you run it hard? Is the 4500 a true Mahindra or is it a Mahindra made by another company?

It sounds like there was water in the engine from sitting outside all winter and you hydro locked the engine when it started.
There is more to this store then your letting onto.

A month out of warranty your dealer should be trying to get it covered under warranty if it really is faulty and not due to neglect.

As the saying goes, there are always two sides to every story.

I have only seen one Mahindra with the rod through the block, a 6 year or so old 4005 that was a rental unit and had been abused, neglected by the owners and every Tom, Dick and Harry in the area.

Me thinks I smell a troll....if he can't come back and give specifics, ie. dealer he bought it from, year of tractor, 2wd/4wd, etc, oh, and pics of that rod thru the block...I'd have a hard time believing this story. Sorry guy, but if ya want to do something like this you better come with the goods...if you're correct, I'll be the first to appolgize...BobG in VA

He's got another thread in the Buying/Owning section saying the same thing. I too will apologize if he can come back and provide a little proof of his complaints but my bet is that it doesn't happen.

Had family in for the Holidays and haven't gotten back on. Had as many as five 3-7 y/o's running around with fireworks, etc.

The engine started knocking last October but being out of work left a seriously deep hole in our finances so I let it sit until spring. A friend thought it sounded like injectors, so when I started it and tried to bring it back up to the house, it knocked a chunck out of the side of the block. (go to forums for more details, Mahindra vs. Kubota ).

Abuse? I use it for general work around a small farm, mowing, food plot, moving firewood and chips, etc. Never anything heavier than bladeing the road back from the highway. Never been operated at a high RPM. Oil has been changed once in the 186 hours used.
