I've got a 1046 with that same stupid switch. It does have a "reverse mowing" mode which you enable by turning the key to the center position and pushing a little triangle. That allows you to mow in reverse. My question is, is it safe to leave the mower in that position all the time? That way it doesn't disengage the PTO every time you hit the brake or back up.
I do a lot of forward and reversing, and it's not that I want to mow in reverse, I'm just tired of having to push and pull that stupid PTO engage knob. So can I just leave the mower in the "reverse mow" position and mow away?

thanks, anthony

It wont hurt a thing by keeping the REV TEC switch on all the time (if you can remember). I still cant get used to it & always seem to forget to enable the mow in reverse option! I mash the reverse pedal an off goes the deck !@#$ Then again, I'm still reaching for a gear shift! I've only got 4.5hrs on my 2544.
G/luck
