Return pressure problems

Comin down the home stretch with my overhaul on the hydraulics on my wood processor. All up and running but my return pressure is near 150 lbs.
The filter system that was on it prior to my revamp has a 3/4" in and out and my return is now 1-1/4". Definitely chocking it back so I thought I would go get a filter with larger ports as well I'm sure this one is not rated for the 20gpm I'm putting through it.
Would I be better to move it to the suction side of the pump before the tank?
Now it is on the return side and just wondered if moving it might help minimize return pressure.

What is the micron rating on that filter?

I would keep the filter on the return side.

I re-read some of your post, and you said something about a radiator. Is that in series with the return port?

That may be your problem. The radiator maybe restricting the flow.

Either get a larger radiator that will handle the GPM, or clean the radiator, or split the return, one leg going straight to the tank, and one leg going through the radiator.

I sort of doubt that you will have a heat problem.

Take some pressure reading before and after the cooler/radiator and same at the filter. Reading the pressure drop across these will tell you where majority of the back pressure is. 3/4" line should handle 20 GPM without a problem. Most of todays skid-loaders run @ 20 - 40 GPM with 3/4" lines.

I picked up a 25gpm filter head with an 1-1/4" in and out as well as a 10 micron filter. My thoughts were to by pass the cooler and keep and eye on the temp gauge. Pretty sure with less restrictions the temp should not be a problem. Also got rid of the quick connects I had and plumbed it direct with shut off valves on the supply and return instead. Mild here today so heading to the shop to put the rest together and try it out.

All good! New coil and she purrs like a kitten. Return pressure is down to 40 lbs and the auto cycle valve works like a dream. Just a couple of brackets left to fabricate and it will be ready for a photo shoot and video.

It helps you to know about the back pressure majority by taking the pressure reading because skid loaders use 20-40 GPM with 3/4" lines that is enough and suitable to handle 20 GPM without any problem in nowadays.
