Maybe ya'll should sell these unused gold watches ... supplement your retirement, whether needed or not.

My wife has gold jewelry she will never miss, she has so much of it, and I have only one gold watch...

Way I see it, is too much gold is currently being sold, by the owners and thieves. I have some sinking feeling that might not be the best thing to do, but they are making the price attractive, which is one reason for the thieves working so hard at it.
In the early 80's I would buy gold rings and strip the diamonds out of them, sell the gold to fund my future purchases, and ended up with quite a collection of "stuff". I pulled all of them out of the safety deposit box to go on a trip (was going to make my Dad a ring, wanted him to pick out which stones). Came in at 2am, Mom and Sis had a disagreement about what time we were leaving, so at 3 something I got woke up and told they would be there in 30 minute, BE READY. I left without coffee and the rings/diamonds were sitting on the dresser in plain sight. Somebody broke into my appartment while I was gone, and that was the end of my gold buying days. Lost a small fortune (to me)
Only ring I really miss was my class ring, handed it to a lady to hold two months after I got it, while I worked on a piece of equipment (remember the no pocket pants?) and got sidetracked before I washed up. Had to leave early due to an emergency, and never went back to that workplace (miles and miles away). It probably got sold for scrap gold over the years, but sure would like to have it back.

When I retired last year I never received a watch but got a plaque that says." Thanks for your service for 40 years and 10 months." I'm happy with that...Getting out of the Rat Race and hi pressure is a great feeling. I never wear a watch anyways. Cell phone works for me. Seems like I don't have enough time now that I'm retired...

Received several nice wrist watches from my employer over the past 23 year. As I near retirement I looked through their retirement gift catalog browsing for what I might want. There are several other nice wrist watches, mantel clocks and even a nice gas grill. The one thing I wanted was a old style pocket watch. Not that I think I would carry it much but just to have something like that to have.

When a friend left his utility company job after 14 years for self employment his coworkers got him a gold watch with "the company logo" to remind him of what he was leaving behind. After the grand presentation the "company logo" turned out to be Disney's favorite rodent! MikeD74T

It was intended to mean he was leaving the "rat race" behind, huh?

Yesterday marked the ninth anniversary of my retirement, and yes, I was given a gold watch when I left. To be honest, I have never quite understood the reason for that traditional gift, after all, when you jump off the treadmill, doesn't that mean you are no longer a slave to the clock? I almost never wear mine, or any other watch now. How about the rest of you retirees?

I retired from the military and received an encased flag which flew over the Nations Capitol, a plaque, a certificate and a picture from the boom operator area of an F16 being refueled in mid air. I still got a ways to go before I retire from the civilian side though. I was hoping to reire at 55 but reality is setting in that it won't be possible now until at least age 60.
