Montana 4940C
I decided to buy a Montana 4940C instead of a John Deere. I am starting to wonder if that was a good decision now. I will admit that my Montana Runs well. It does everything that I have wanted to do very well. It cost me thousands less than an equivalent John Deere. However I was in a Farm Supply place today (Atwoods) I noticed that they had John Deere dog collars. I have also seen John Deere Plates, bowls, knifes, forks, spoons, glasses, lunch boxes etc. I am afraid that by not buying a John Deere I have limited myself to not being able to buy all these memorabilia with Montana on them.

I feel your pain!

I bought a Cub Cadet Yanmar EX3200. My 20 month-old son is OBSESSED with that tractor. BUT - can I buy him his own pint-sized version of my tractor? NO!!

If I had bought a Joh Deere, my son would not have to think daddy doesn't love him enough to get him a tractor just like daddy's tractor.

I had to chuckle at your post. I sorta shake my head in disbelief when I walk thru my farm supply store and see all the John Deere labled "Made in China" socks, napkins, inflatable tractors, oven mits, bird feeders, bird houses, underwear, pajamas, etc.

Buy the John Deere toy, paint it yellow and black and give it to him. He will not notice the difference and will love you forever.

If you are real worried about it being exact there are people who build custom models but they are not really for play and they cost almost as much as your 3200.

This is a very funny thread we have going here! I joke all the time about how most of my customers are those that have shopped very hard and taken the time to make an educated decision about what they are buying. Then there are those that will go out and buy a JD because they already have the hat and t-shirt...........

You have a really nice tractor there and I wouldn't lose any sleep because you can't buy a model of it.

John Deere needs you to buy all the aftermarket apparel and nic naks without that sale they would be out of business !!

Much like Harley Davidson, John Deere has a following far beyond tractor owners because of the company's links to American history, and so many family's histories. Also, like Harley (and other companies - most notably automobile companies) if you want to market an item with the JD logo and colors, you contact the marketing department and ask to buy a marketing license.

They will probably ask to see a proposal that may include a request for samples of the type of item you wish to market with the JD colors and logo. If approved, you pay the licensing fee and get the license for those items for a specific period of time - after which you can renew or not.

If there was a demand for Montana tractor items, I'm sure Montana would be equally happy to oblige - however, as evidenced by the dearth of Montana branded memorabilia - that demand does not exist....maybe if they're still around in 170 years there will be...

Uhhh...mmmm you don't understand how it licensing works...and, you haven't followed JD stock prices over the past 3-4 years.....

Its the same for IH/Farmall, much more JD stuff than any of the older or newer brands. I run Kubota, you can find a few diecast items for them, maybe a shirt and hat, but thats about it. I also run IH built cub cadets, cant find them in modern diecast with all the detail, but you can find a RF110 and 140H3 JD garden tractor in the precision diecast from Ertl. I agree, find a nice small compact, even one of the plastic or diecast ones with no names on it, paint it to match the montana or the Cub Cadet Yanmar and at that age, they wont know. It will just match "daddy's" tractor. Mike

Hey guys lets not get too serious this was made as a tongue in cheek post just to get a little bit of levity going. I am in some posts that are pretty serious and I wanted to just have a bit of fun here.

By the way did I mention that walmart sells an electric John Deere tractor with working front end loader for kids. If I bought one and used fusion spray paint to paint over the john deere do you think my grandaughter would notice the different shade of green. Shes 2 1/2
