Is Lucas elestrical gear as highly regarded over there as here in Australia?

Don't suppose I've come across any of their stuff for quite a while - have they suffered the fate they deserved?
Highly regarded ?? You jest, of course....Everybody that I know that had a British car built in the 60's, 70's or for that matter even the current cars, has had electrical problems.....and that includes the rebodied Jag/Tauras cars...

For several years I served as the life support system for a 1968 Volvo P1800S. I will testify that there's a reason Lucas was called "The Prince of Darkness".

I saw a three cylinder geo metro repower an old 60's model compact tractor. The idea was to be able to run hydraulic accessories like the newer JDs and Huskys. The original set up was a 16HP upright air cooled engine.I don't remember what brand the original engine was.The PTO was belt driven and really killed power I bet.I don't remember the tractor brand but it was red and gray. Not sure if that was original.

I'd love to put a Cummins 4BT into my jeep....also like to put a HPCR Cummins into an early Ramcharger....or even a small...say 30HP Yanmar/Kubota into...maybe......an early Austin Healy Sprite, or one of those little brit convertibles....course I'd have to rewire everything and get rid of all the Lucas elect parts...specially the headlight switch that reads "on" "off" and "flicker"...
hehehehehehehe:D

Have you seen this SITE. Lucus sucks!I had a Fiat Spyder with that system.Sucked!I have seen a Triumph TR6 running a 34HP Kubota diesel. It ran a five speed manual from a newer Triumph.Top speed was only 80mph but fuel mileage was between 60mpg and 70mpg.Take off was quick.

I didn't see it but my son worked for a company that had a 2+2 Chev 4 door 1ton I think it was with a 453 Detroit in it can't imagine the front end would carry that load well but it would be a brute for power.
