I have the pump off and a new seal but do not see how to remove the old oil seal around the shaft that goes into the engine. I have removed the clip ring but the seal seems seated do not want to scratch the walls. How do I remove?

Is the seal rubber covered? The oil seal will most likely have a rubber lining with a single or double lip and should be spring loaded. The old shaft seal should just pop right out You shouldnt have to worry much about scratching the walls

If you don't have a seal puller ( I have used 2 different kinds, one from snapon and the ones that OMC have) try a screw driver and pry out. Go slow and work around the shaft it should come out ok.
