My 96 455 jd has done a great job and logged over 1900 hours. I am in the market for a replacement. Looked at a 4010 hst which is 4x4 and the right size. I also looked at a 2305 which is basically the same machine, more power, but a single speed hst and I believe a smaller gpm hydraulic pump. Any suggestions on what I should be looking at ? I mow about 4 acres and have a tc45d New Holland for the heavier chores. Would my present 60" mower be able to adapt to either new machine? I also would like to build a loader for it in the near future. Thanks in advance. jr

jr,

Though the pumps on the 455 and 2305 look to be the same, the operating pressure is much higher on the sub-CUT; it will do things much differently than your 455 would. The 4010 has a great following, I'm sure you will hear from Ralph, but that tractor is about to be phased out and one of the reasons is the 14 PTO hp. As for the deck, I would just go with the 62C (assuming you go with the 2305). Another poster here (DJLX) went through all kinds of conniptions to adapt a 54 from a X585 to fit his 2210. Also your 455 will probably sell faster with the deck on it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am curious what shape the machines (900 and 1900) are in. With 1900 hours are you having problems?

Haven't really had one problem with the drive train. Just would like to update and add four wheel drive. Two dealers shot me some good estimates on a trade but the final estimates haven't come in as of yet. If I can swap for what I feel is an average return I certainly will. I haven't seen many 455s for sale and the ones I have seen are high priced . I am sure at half the price of a new one it would sell instantly. It is always kept inside and well polished. I like new tractors and old cars.... go figure.

joe,

Another topic aside, what year, and I'm assuming your tag means you have/had a 427 vette? Anyway, when I met my bride-to-be, she and her sister had a 68 conv., but I had a 66 427 conv., and that was the BADDEST, loudest, most unstable -- and don't you dare lift while cornering -- piece of American automobile love affair that a pure-bred American male could ever hope to have. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifWhoopee!

I recently replaced my 425/54" with a 2210/62" and absolutely love it. Also got an FEL with it which has been a dream. The 2210 has more than enough power and has turned out to be an even better machine than I had hoped it would be. Coming from the 455, I can't imagine anyone would be dissapointed with a 2210 or 2305.... good luck.

I'm new to the tractor hobby so I may not have much to offer. The 4010 looks very similar to the 4100 that I just picked up. I can't wait to put more hours on it, but it is quite an amazing machine. If you've been happy for as long as you've been with the 455, I can only imagine you'd be equally if not more impressed with a 4010. See if you can get some seat time on a 4010 to see if it's for you /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually we have 4 of them. 2 63 coupes, 1 66 427 / 425 coupe, and a 75 convertible ( air, automatic, both tops ) for the lady. Also in the fleet of old is a arizona 69 pontiac lemans convertible with many gto options. After all... when the tractor needs service one needs a parts runner.

Joe,

Nice. A 66 427/425; that is a beast! Mine was the 390 hp version if I remember right. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
