I have recently taken over the care of my Grandfather's 1973 MF 135 Deluxe diesel that I will eventually inherit. Among other tasks (new wiring harnesses, new radiator, new thermostat, 10DN to 10SI alternator conversion, new valve cover gasket and general degunking all over), I am replacing the fuel lift pump because the manual lever on the old one was broken off.
I finally managed to get the fuel lines removed from the old lift pump as the old grommets had hardened, and was wondering if anybody had any advice/tricks for installing the new grommets onto the fuel lines and into the new fuel lift pump (also removing old grommets)? Do you push the new grommet over the flare on the fuel line then install the grommet/fuel line or do you install the grommet into the pump and then push the fuel line into it?
Thanks
Brian
