Is changing out the 1 1/8" stubby as easy as it looks??

Went to ytmag and saw an assembly for $119 that bolts right in, changing me to 1 3/8 standard....

YES
maybe a one beer job.

you can use the opportunity to drain and change the hydraulic oil; when you drain it, just unbolt the 4 bolts around the shaft, pull the shaft out, and push in the new shaft, bolt it in and put in new oil.

or, do what I did(twenty some-odd years ago), park the tractor heading down a STEEP downhill, -this way the fluid won't drain out the back- then unbolt the 4 bolts etc... and you're on the way. No need to stand the tractor on its nose, just be reasonable; bad seals somewhere might leak and get some fluid in the clutch area, but otherwise, it works.

In either case don't forget the gasket before you insert the new shaft.

I bought an over run unit. It's a lot easier on the heart when you are bush hogging and push in the clutch and the flywheel action of the blade keep pushing you forward. I think it only cost around $30 it also changed the output shaft to 1 3/8.

ditto on both,... new shaft is a 4 blt 10 minute job.. and DOuse an ORC.. whichever shaft you have,.
