Replaceing 2010 generator with an alternator.

Hi.

I have a 2010 John Deere tractor. I have to replace the voltage regular. About once every year or two.
I would now like to replace the generator with an alternator. I have been researching the project on the computer. Some say I have to switch the battery connectors, others say I must change the coil wires. some say change the wires on the amp gauge, and the lights, among other things.
Can someone help me out with specific instructions. As to how to wire it and what kind of Alternator to use. I have a 12 volt positive ground. And need help. The tractor runs great and I don't want to mess it up. thank you, very much for your help. Fred

The reason everyone s telling you to switch wires around is because almost all alternators are negative ground. You can switch the tractor to a negative ground, but you do need to switch battery cables of course and also amp gauge wiring and coil wiring. The lights dont matter. They will work equally well on positive or negative ground. If you can find a positive ground alternator - such as this one on e-bay 12 Volt 100 Amp Positive Ground 1 Wire Alternator | eBay you should be fine without swapping any wires.

How many yrs have positive ground alt. been available? I've only recently seen them advertised. Thanks,Jim

I have only seen them recently as well. Never actually tried one myself.
