Tractor
Ford 3930
Having watched a wonderful video on replacing the fuel injectors on a Ford tractor, see
, I decided that would be my next project.
Imagine my surprise when I went to swing out the battery box and realized the front-end-loader was in the way.
If I take the battery out can I get to the injectors or is there some secret procedure I need to pursue?

Thanks.

1 - If you take the box/tray out you should have room

OR

2 - Raise the loader and prop it in the raised position with 2 stout (1.5 - 2") angle iron supports laid on the cylinder rods and secured with hose clamps.

Thank you tractor tech.
Even with the FEL fully raised there is not enough clearance to swing the battery tray out because of the side braces.
Looks like taking the battery out is my only option.

Well, this has turned into an adventure. I was able to remove the battery and tray without removing the front-end-loader.
Imagine my surprise when the fuel injectors I ordered did not fit the tractor. The cover on the tip was a different size.
When I called the parts people they asked me to provide the original part number from the New Holland parts catalog.
It turns out that part number 87800132 was never released into the after market manufacturing system.
To make matters worse, when I called the local New Holland dealers, they told me they can not get the part either.

So now I am trying to find a way to clean these original injectors. Do I just soak them or do I need to take them apart?
Thanks.

Why don't you just leave them be and run some fuel injector cleaner? You can get them tested if it doesn't run at all.

Thank you for the offer thempumpguysc. I ran some SeaFoam through it and it seems to have helped considerably.

I reviewed this thread and seem to have the similar issue on my New Holland 3930. Tractor starts but has the funny "dry" clacky sound that gets worse as it runs and has a small bit of white smoke. Few options in my area for repair and one truck diesel mechanic an hour away says is sounds like needs injector issue and could haul it to him. I am comfortable with gas tractors yet this is my first diesel tractor. Is injector removal as simple as the video above as the older Fords? And sending the injectors to an injector shop the most straight forward? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I sorely need to brush hog. Thank you,

It all “looks easy”.. all u can do is try.. sometimes the inj body gets rusted in the bore and it takes days of spraying them down with penetrating oil.. so all u can do is TRY..

Have a look at the mounting ear on the inj PUMP..
There’s a timing line on it..
That line corespondents with degree marks stamped into the block..
The line should be lined up or REAL CLOSE to “0*”..
If it isn’t, try moving the pump..

Ok, will be getting into it this week. Thank you for the advice.

Well, here were are 1 year later and the tractor still has the same symptoms.
We replaced the fuel and fuel filter, bled the lines and ran fuel injector cleaner for several days.

I can get the rpm's up to about 2,000. However, when the tractor is under load from the mower, they drop to about 1,600 and go as low as 1,000.
Now we are debating whether the fuel pump is losing the will to live.

Are there devices that can measure the fuel pressure and/or quantity?
Are there electric fuel pumps that would allow me to by-pass this issue?

Thanks.

Have u checked the filter in the fuel tank..?? Its made onto the shut off tap under the tank..
If the answer is no, try to “back-blow” the filter..
Shut off the fuel, take the line off, stick your air nozzle in the hole and after turning on the tap, blow air into the tap.. THAT SHOULD clear the mesh filter..
Hook it all back up, bleed the air and try it..
