Mike,

Yes, it was working, but now it's giving me fits again. If I go through the log off, close browser, clear cache, reopen TBN, etc, it works again without problems. I may reply to couple of threads without incident and then boom, or as Emeril says, "BAM!", it's asking for a logon procedure again.

Definitely no cookie blocker...Yes, I do have the "delete upon closing" feature enabled...
FOR CERTAIN this is a problem with your settings on your browser, which is causing deletion of your cookies.

You need to get someone to help you alter your settings to allow cookies to be set and remain for the TBN site.

Often, people's computer settings get changed without them even being aware of it. Browser "helper" apps can do all kinds of things. You'll need to go into your IE or Firefox advanced settings to get at the root cause of this. Nothing we do here can have any effect whatsoever.

Go to Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced for cookie and security settings. One or more of the settings keeps deleting the TBN cookie. So that is where you need to fix it.

Strange thing, I logged into this site 4 years ago and have never logged out and have never had to log in again until yesterday. It was so long I forgot my password and had to look it up. Today I had to log in again. I wonder why? I have not changed any settings on my computer.

As I said earlier, I never had problems before either. Stopped using the site for awhile and now that I'm back on, BAM!

BTW, I like the your location in the avatar. Interesting!

While I empathize and sympathize with anyone who has/is having a problem like this, I've been a member for almost 7 years and have never had a problem. If the problem was at the TBN end of things, a lot more people would be having issues.

Many, if not all, software, including security products, auto update. Auto update brings down new releases, updated virus definition files, etc. With many people becoming aware of security issues associated with browsers, particularly IE, the software vendors have responded. A Microsoft update can change the security settings in IE. All this usually happens without the person at the keyboard knowing it. While they might know an update has occurred, the details of the update usually remain a mystery. I support the PCs at my church and nine times out of ten, when someone reports an 'Internet problem' it was caused by either an update to the Norton Internet Security product or because the person was 'investigating' the options in the product.

Because of the security issues with IE, I switched to Firefox a long time ago. While IE has gotten better, it's not worth going back.

Bucky - It's not your cache you need to clear, it's the cookies.

The weird thing is you have tried it on several different PCs. Each PC should have its own cookie.

Let's try a different approach...

Log off of TBN, then, log in again, but UNcheck the little box to remember your password each time you log in.

Then log out of TBN again.

Then log in one more time and see if the problem clears up. You could log off and on a few times and if you choose, the last time you log in check that little box to remember your password if you like. Try it and see what happens. Heck, it can't get worse and will only take a couple minutes to try.

If that fails, I would try a different browser and see if it happens with that. You know, browsers, computers, etc... are not all that great. I support servers and desktops for a living. I have for about 20 years and I earn a decent living because they require maintenance and repair. :) I currently have an install of Firefox on one PC that, when logged in to TBN, I can only reply to one post at normal speed. After that first reply, any replies after that, my typing takes about one second for each character to return in the window. So I can whip out a reply and then sit back and enjoy a beverage as I watch the characters fill in! I have tried everything I can think of and it still comes back after a day or two. The only fix left for me to try is to kill my profile in Firefox, or wipe it out and re-install Firefox. Sometimes, that's what it takes.

MR,

I never never never never choose to remember my user name or password on any site, regardless of the PC I use. Just a security habit that I've used for a long time. Yes, sometimes it's a pain.

As for switching browsers, I can try that on my home PCs, but not the ones at work. My company has the PCs setup so that we are not adminstrators and can't install software. How rude of them, eh?!?!?!?!?!

I fixed my computer to stay logged on to TBN again. I went to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom Level, and unchecked Automatic Logon on Intranet only and checked Automatic Logon with current username and password.

These settings must have been changed by an automatic update.

You do not want to do this on a public computer.
