Just bought a second property that has 2 to 3 wet areas each approx 15-20 feet round, maybe 6 inches deep where prior to my purchase, trespassers drove pickup trucks into the property and cut donuts. These damaged areas have now been sitting for a few years and they are tiny little ponds. I am going to pump the water out and then is it a simple matter of filling the areas with dirt?

These areas will not completely dry up at this point, each rain replenishes them. In the pictures attached, you can see 2 of the spots. No, not talking about the pond. You can even see the ruts. How would you fix these? Thank you!

The wet areas were not caused by cutting "dog nutz" . That fun only revealed the low spot with poor drainage.

Good luck with pumping or filling unless you bring in a lot of material (That drains well)

And then, where will the water go?

I would look at ripping the area with a subsoiler, break up the hard pan so it would be able to drain. Then add soil on top.

I've looked up to find out if land here is designated federal wetlands. Some of it is, and in one case found out after the fact. We got gigged on a couple acres where we tilled and filled. Had to take it all out and restore it. Not saying it's right or not, but just sayin.

Not sure where you are? As above rip it up as best you can. Water has to have a place to go unless you want puddles or ponds. If you have a natural slope, just tear it up and get it back to grade, if not, then you either have to deal with drain tile to light somewhere or raise the low spots then address the next ones next year:)

Best,

Before you get equipment on the spot, go down 3 feet with a post hole digger and see just what you are dealing with. You might hit an artesian spring! ;-)

But if you find clay strata down three feet, "ripping" at two and a half feet won't do anything but waste fuel.

A guy did several donuts in his pickup on 10 acres up the street from me. Cameras got him, as well as the maintenance guy saw him. He actually did it while I was bushhogging the property, and I never saw or heard him.
They need to convict and then advertise what a serious offense it is, because this is happening way too much!

Anyone furnishing a scope of work based on nothing other than arial pictures isn't providing usable information. Grade of surounding land is always the most important thing in dertermining what and how to dry standing water. Since the mud holes have been there unchanged for a number of years,is there one or more profound reasons they must be eliminated now?

Heavens forbid! DONUTS!

The world should fall all around such dastardly deeds.

I am thinking your drone photos make a big difference in evaluation of water wet area. You just bought the property, but that surface pond has been there for many years because there are no trees growing inside the water pond. Where is this located? Is limestone dissolution causing the location of the pond, and not vehicle tires? I do see vehicle marks, but I have them on my property, and it's caused by driving a 4wd vehicle into a wet area already, and then sinking into the ground. Not caused by donuts.

You can remove the vehicle marks, but removing the water wet pond areas will require extensive access during dry periods, and then reshaping the overall grade for improved drainage. It can be done at cost. Is it necessary?
