I have purchased a new GL3240 tractor with 514 FEL. My question is when removing your loader is it necessary to shut the tractor off and bleed off or release the pressure before disconnecting the four hoses at the quick couplers? Your help is greatly appreciated. Brent

I own a much smaller tractor but I would think yours would be the same for this. It's not necessary to shut down the tractor and release the hydraulic pressure but you may one heck of a time re-connecting the couplers especially if it's hot outside.

Yes,

You should shut the tractor down. Once the tractor is shut off, just move the loader joystick around to relieve any pressure and then disconnect.

You most likely do it without shutting the tractor down, but why take the risk.

Cheers,

Yes. It's a simple turn of a key (obviously, my point being a simple procedure)..... Why wouldn't you want to bleed off the pressure to a (4) connection about to be breached?

You should always shut the tractor down and bleed off all of the pressure by moving the joy stick around in all directions before disconnecting the loader.

If you like the smell of hydraulic oil & want to work all day covered in it ( mount up). By all means remove the loader with the valve pressurized!

I have to shut down and relieve the pressure by moving the joy stick or my couplers wont release.

Will the loader side of the connections leak? Oris there check balls inside Thanks

There are several different hook ups depending on the tractor.
The late model BXs for instance, can easily be disconnected with the engine running as the quick connects are downstream from the loader valve. The valve stays on the tractor and the lines to the loader are only pressurized when you move the control lever. Assuming of course that the loader is in a rest position. The QDs have ball valves that prevent fluid leakage.

This is not the case with the BX2200 for instance, as the valve comes off with the loader and the lines to the valve are pressurized when the engine is running.

Your procedure should be tailored to your tractor and preferences. The only downside to turning off the engine is a bit of wear on the starter.
