Note I am not griping, I expected some problems with the tractor when I purchased it.

I have been dreading removing the 60 inch deck on the somewhat abused new to me BX2200 I purchased last fall. Vision of rusted in this and that and the dreadful possibility of a busted hydrostatic cooling fan were dancing in my head. Earlier I had tried to lower the mower but could not get the height knob to turn.

The posts on TBN made this go much easier then expected. I raised the 3 point as high as it would go. It wanted to kick back to neutral a few times before it was all the way up. Seen someone dealing with that in a video. Is it normal? With the 3 point up I worked the knob back and forth a few times to get it to work. Each time moved maybe 1/8 turn more in the direction of zero.

The rest was a cake walk with the exception of the PTO. I took the easy route and let the 2 halves separate. With the mower gone it came off with just a few tries.

I have to say I feel lucky regarding the fan as it looks good. There was a small branch wedged into the works less the 6 inches away.

All I can say is COOL and thanks to everyone on TBN.

Glad it worked out for you, yes mine has kicked ack a time or two so I just don't release the handle until it tops out.

Glad it worked out OK. You'll find it's a bit more of a challenge to put it back on, but be patient with it and you'll eventually find things start going into place. It's one of those things that gets easier the more you do it.
Suggestions:
1) First clean, then gooch up with lubricant all the levers and pivots underneath while the deck is off. Great time to get rid of all the accumulated gunk so everything works freely.
2) Service the mower deck as needed... clean, sharpen blades, check belt, lube all the grease zerks, check oil in gearbox. Make sure the pto shaft is lubed and slides freely. That release collar on the end going to the tractor mid pto is the worst problem for me when re-mounting the deck. It's hair-trigger and hard to reattach unless you're standing on your head.
3) Maybe a good time to replace the second fuel filter that's up underneath? Messy job because of its location.

Thanks Grandad4 I will do as you suggested. Seems like a different tractor with the mower off.

On mine, when I get the PTO shaft reattached, I pull and jiggle it to see if I can pull it back off without unlocking the collar. I have heard of them coming off, and nobody wants that because it will bang away on everything underneath.

Attaching the PTO is the worst part for me, so sometimes when I get the deck close, I like to attach the PTO first, and then do the rest.

I always attach the PTO last. I think it is easier because the deck does not move but whatever works for you;)

I find that almost impossible because between the lift arm and my Bro-Tek, getting my hand in there is really a pain. But as you said, whatever works for you.

It does for a fact and knocks a hole in the oil filter. Guess how I know.:cool2: Course I wasn't dancing at the time. I now make sure it "clicks" whether that's a sound or a feeling it better "click" or I keep working on it but usually they always "click" right on.

If all you got was a hole in the filter, you were one lucky guy! My little "accident" involved the fact that I removed the deck, but as I was a new owner and had not yet read the manual, I failed to remove the stub shaft from the mid PTO! I used the tractor for several tasks with no problem but then I installed a seed spreader on the rear PTO. I had spread about an acre of grass seed when I stopped to refill the spreader. When I got back on the tractor I went to engage the REAR PTO but grabbed the MID PTO lever instead. The noise that ensued was heart stopping... The pics show the story. It basically sheared off the Hydraulic Oil filter from the front case half of the HST. It actually broke off the nipple the filter threads onto. About $1150 later I had a rebuilt HST with a new front case. Lesson learned REMOVE THE STUB SHAFT!!! :(

The PTO is the first thing I hook up, and the last thing, working from the left side of the tractor, its much easier to attach it before the lift is attached.
Put some WD or liquid wench on the height knob shaft and let it sit over night, continue to work it until its freed up, then check it periodically. Mine was tough back in 05 when it had 60 hours on it, never had a problem since.
just take your time at first until you master the connections and such. And always double check everything, otherwise it will cost mucho dollars.
One thing I have learned while owning is never to rush anything, you'll pay either in dollars, blood, or worse.
