kubota bx 2370-1
Is there Teflon tape on the treads of the loader couplers? Needing to remove one of them. Got a bx 2370-1 if that helps. Is it as simple as just using wrenches to remove it?

General answer is depends on on the fitting type. If the threads do the sealing, you need teflon tape or pipe sealer compound. NPT threads are the most common type. The cheapest threads to make, but the worst sealing & generally don't last that long if you connect/disconnect them much.

I think Kubota uses JIC fittings on most hoses. There is a precision metal on metal mating surface that seals things. The threads on the nuts don't seal anything, just hold the mating surfaces tight together. ORB is another common type & just like a garden hose has an o-ring or rubber washer doing the sealing with threads just keeping tension on the o-ring. As threads aren't sealing in these, tape or pipe dope doesn't do anything.

Check to see if there is existing tape or pipe dope showing. If not its probably not needed & a better connection type.

Make sure you put tape on right. If you wrap it wrong or over the end it will be knocked loose in your hydraulic system, where it will do bad things to valves & pumps. Personally I try to use pipe dope over tape. Lots of people have used tape fine, but lots don't like it. With either option, you need to clean the old fittings well so old tape or dope doesn't contaminate the system.

Rule of thumb is...Refrain from using any teflon tape on any fittings. Use a pipe sealing compound, 3 bond works well. You get any loose tape in the system, it will do bad things to the pump and valves.

what type of 3 bond for threads? thanks

Thread sealant (non hardening) of course. Issue with teflon tape can be really bad, especially if you aren't very careful about applying it and get any over the end of a fitting where it might get in the fluid flow.

Myself I use Detroit Diesel red sealant but you have to be a dealer to get it. I don not think it's available retail.

My kubota fittings need no tape or sealant. Metal to metal contact.

Use paste type pipe dope sealant.

Some fittings are thread sealing like the ones with a fitting into a cylinder and require sealant. The hoses are JIC and don’t need sealer.

Hose to coupler connections are typically tapered pipe thread. This connection requires use of a sealant.
